Commenting on the report, an analyst from MRC’s team said: “One trend in the market is growing popularity of packaged food. The processed food and beverage industry accounted for $4.59 trillion in 2016 and is expected to reach $4.68 trillion by 2017. The growth is expected to be approximately 1.5% on a year-over-year basis, owing to benefits of processed foods such as ease to buy, store, and eat.”
According to the report, one driver in the market is increasing demand for sweeteners. Sugar has a tendency of stimulating cancer cells and causes cancers. Avoiding sugar leads to fluctuations in blood sugar levels. Consumers increasingly prefer low-sugar content foods. The global consumption of high-intensity sweeteners is highly dependent on the production of low-calorie food, diet carbonated soft drinks, and sugar substitutes. The demand for the entire range of high-intensity sweeteners is strong in APAC due to the high consumption of carbonated soft drinks. The global consumption of high-intensity sweeteners for all applications was estimated at more than 159 kilo metric ton in 2016.
Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is complex manufacturing process and high price of raw material. The production of L-aspartic acid through fermentation in a medium containing fumaric acid and ammonia is a commonly used technique worldwide. Bacillus and Pseudomonas are the extensively used bacteria for the production of aspartic acid through fermentation. Aspartic acid can also be produced through the biochemical process of transamination of fumaric acid with the enzymes of bacteria. This process results in the formation of small amounts of aspartic acid produced from hydrocarbons or ethanol by culturing them with a wild strain of the genus Corynebacterium or Brevibacterium. The process requires highly skilled workers.
The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
